Dear Caron,
I am an RN and just started a new job in a mental health facility. The focus is on children and adolescence. We do a daily "group" with them. We may pick the topic the only criteria being "education" of some sort. I wanted to offer some valuable coping skills kids could use. So, I went to the computer and spent over an hour clicking on lists of Internet items looking for help. I was getting very tired and needed to go to bed. When bingo" I found your article on kids, trauma, and coping skills! I just wanted to say a great big thank-you for your helpful article!
Sincerely ,
Charlotte Rogers

A Note from Dr. Caron Goode

We are making some changes at Inspired Parenting over the next several months. Because I still find so many excellent writers with good ideas to share for rearing the whole child, IP will continue to offer articles, but a fewer number in respect for your reading time. At the turn of the New Year, you’ll see more suggestions for the new brand name for IP’s work: HeartWise.™

Here are three excellent articles for the holidays, from handling stress, to children’s holiday social skills to asking the core questions to provide deeper meaning about what it is important to us. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Show your children what the best is. Read on...

Protecting Your Health from Holiday Stress

By Lori Radun

"I don't want to wear that costume." "Let me check that candy before you eat it." "When am I going to find the time to make all this food?" "Where are we going to come up with the extra money for gifts this year?" The stress of the holidays is upon us. With stress comes lower immunity and higher susceptibility to sickness. In addition, stress affects our mood and can tarnish the joy of the holidays. Here are some tips to make your holidays less stressful, thus keeping you and your family healthier.  Read on...

Core Questions

By Lloyd J Thomas

When I was in school, the highest premium was paid the kid who had the "right answers." Having the right answers got kids top grades, parental approval, peer group envy and often, loneliness. Most children were taught how to "be right" and "do the right thing." Very few were taught how to "be loved" and "be a loved person." If you had the choice, would you rather be right or loved? Not an easy question.  Read on...
